Steph Curry Became The Internet's Hero After Showing No Mercy And Putting Dillon Brooks In An Absolute Torture Chamber
As long as he's not going up against your favorite team, there are few better things to do with your time than watching Steph Curry play basketball. This isn't exactly a hot take, it's more in the "no duh" category if we're being honest, but Year 15 for Steph is off to one hell of a start.
In 3 games to start the year (2-1) Steph is putting up 30.7/5.3/3.7 on 50/44% splits with 5.7 3PM a night. If you were curious what Steph was doing nearly 10 years ago when he won his unanimous MVP, that line was 30.1/5.4/6.7 on 50/45% splits with 5.1 3PM. So…yeah. Steph has basically started 2023-24 playing at his unanimous MVP level at age 35. Totally normal things that definitely happen all the time.
Yesterday in Houston, it looked like the Warriors were on the brink of what I would consider a pretty embarrasing loss. Draymond came back and was finally active which pushed CP3 to the bench, everyone was healthy, that should have been a game the Warriors rolled. Instead, they needed some Steph Magic in order to pull it out. Thankfully for GS, Steph has an abundance of magic he can tap into whenever the hell he wants
Quiet most of the night, just when you think you might have Steph and the Warriors where you want them, he goes nuclear in the blink of an eye he crushes all of your hopes and dreams.
Knocking down four straight 3PM down the stretch to close it, none were louder than what he did to Dillon Brooks
Welcome to the torture chamber Dillon. My word. While most of what Dillon Brooks does is annoying,
we should give him credit when it comes to defense as he's a pretty good on ball defender. That's what makes the Steph clip so good in my opinion. He has that man in hell. He's toying with Brooks as if he's a camper at one of Steph's camps. The second he rejected that screen told me he wanted to bury Brooks all by himself without the help, and that cross? Sheesh. Then to pump fake it and drill that three right in his face immediately then busting out the Home Alone celebration, that my friends is as clean a basketball murder as you'll find. You might not even like the Warriors, but the way he put Dillon Brooks in a blender is something that I think brings us all together. For someone that runs his mouth as much as he does, it's not the worst thing in the world to see Brooks get humbled like this. I mean, this is Steph. This is just what he does.
Remember, these two have a history with all the MEM/GS drama these last few seasons, so you know deep down Steph loved this moment. It was as if he was actively looking for the kill, which is something I feel like Steph does only when he truly wants to make a point.
So while this was just one play, not only was it awesome but the way Steph closed this game was a reminder that he is in no way even close to regressing. That's pretty terrifying. Not only that, but CP3 finally accepted coming off the bench for the first time in his career and put up a team best +22 in his minutes. Nothing flashy, just 8/7 with 1 turnover, but at the end of the day that's all they really need from Paul. Add in the fact that the Warriors made 18 3PM as a team and shot 40% from deep, and this is a version that looks all too familiar.
Also, let's not overlook the 2-0 start on the road. Considering the Warriors were 11-30 just last season away from home, if they also figured out their road issues that fucked up their season last year, I feel like we need to recalibrate what they are capable of this season.
